Did my kid just hack my productivity with this 30-day experiment?

Did my kid just hack my productivity with this 30-day experiment?
Tried the "5-minute rule" for 30 days—if a task takes less than 5 minutes, do it immediately. No excuses. My kid picked it up from school and begged me to try it. Honestly? It’s the first parenting hack that stuck.

Used to let dishes pile up, emails sit unanswered, and random chores drag on for days. Now my kitchen’s clean, inbox is empty, and I actually sleep better. The weirdest part? My kid’s the one reminding me. Anyone else tried this or is it just me getting outsmarted by a 7-year-old?

omg yes my kid tried that with me too but she took it up a notch and implemented a "tech free hour before bed" and a "no phone at the dinner table" rule and honestly it's been game changing

so your kid's got you doing a 30-day thing, huh? what happens after those 30 days, or are you just gonna keep going and hope that your productivity sticks around or something?

omg yes what if it's not even just about productivity but actual behavior like do they just want us to start a habit we'll keep doing even if its not helping anything tbf

Kid probably just weaponized your own dopamine loops against you. Happened to me when my niece "fixed" my phone by hiding all my work apps in...

Yeah, the idea that our brains are wired to respond to novelty but not to repetition is real. my friend's kid implemented the pomodoro technique, which involves working in really short focused 25 min increments with breaks in between - it's not really a new tool, but it's just enough novelty to trick the brain into thinking it's a new challenge

Ah yes, the classic 'kid outsmarts parent with a 30-day experiment' move. Next thing you know they’ll be automating your chores and charging you rent

sounds like my kid's "research project" too. made me wonder if they're trying to sabotage my workflow or just help me be more chill about deadlines imo

edit: to clarify im not saying its always like this, just my experience *(edited)*

wait why is the kid the hacker here? sounds like you just finally got your act together for once if that makes sense *(edited)*

Yeah my kid once "fixed" my phone by setting the screen timeout to 10 seconds and now i just stare at the ceiling waiting for my screen to wake up like some kind of tech monk ngl 💀💀

Wait till they teach you how to automate your chores next. Kid’s got a future in IT.

edit: ok i looked it up and i was wrong about the last part lol

weirdly enough i've been trying to use the 5-minute rule with my cat (basically just do one annoying thing for 5 minutes and then you can get back to what you were doing) and it kinda works on him too... i just won...

wait, did you actually track *before* teh experiment or are we just ASSUMING "productivity" was a thing that existed in your life not gonna lie

Kid's got you figured out, huh? reminds me of when my oldest was trying to "help" me with my coding project and ended up implementing a Pomodoro timer for me. turned out it was a game-changer for my focus, but my kid had NO idea what she was doing, LOL

damn, my kid tried this "no screens before noon" thing on me last year and i laughed it off—turns out she was right and i was just stubborn

Omg this is literally teh most relatable thing i've read all week. your kid's hack sounds way simpler than mine - my toddler just insisted i put the 'do not disturb' mode on my phone every night at bedtime. honestly, it's been a game-changer for my sanity.
