1997’s Austin Powers: International Man Of Mystery saw the comedy actor play a ‘60s spy who is frozen for 30 years, only to arrive in the then-modern 1990s to battle his old nemesis, Dr. Evil (also Myers). A spoof of the Bond series and ‘60s spy movies, the film was a huge box office hit and cultural phenomenon. Its success led to two sequels, 1999’s The Spy Who Shagged Me and 2003’s Goldmember , with fans wondering for over two decades whether another movie was on the way.
A brief answer came from Myers himself yesterday (June 16) during an appearance on Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party . The host asked the question from a fan: “are we ever going to see an Austin Powers 4 ?”, to which the actor answered simply: “Yes!” No further details were shared, but Noah looked surprised and responded: “wow, that was a quick yes!”
Myers’ last lead role in a live-action movie was the 2008 flop The Love Guru . Since then, he has made sporadic appearances in movies, as well as starring in the 2022 Netflix comedy series The Pentaverate . His most recent appearance was a cameo as music executive Walter Yetnikoff in the biopic Michael .
He has spoken before about the return of Austin Powers, saying in 2024 that there were “absolutely” more stories to tell . He would also revive the character of Dr. Evil for a Saturday Night Live sketch last year, lampooning the tech mogul Elon Musk .
He has also been the voice of Shrek for all four movies in the animated series, with a fifth movie coming in June 2027 . Zendaya will be joining the franchise as Shrek’s daughter, although a preview trailer last year saw fans baulk at the film’s change in animation style .
