The team behind Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 have promised the shooter won’t have any “bullshit” celebrity cameos or unrealistic skins.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.

The first-person shooter’s campaign mode starts with a conflict between North and South Korea with developers promising the story will feel like it could have been “ripped” from the headlines. The team at Infinity Ward have also promised fans that unrealistic skins will never feature in Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 .

After 2024’s Black Ops 6 launched, a number of “goofy” animal skins were added to the game alongside crossovers with S quid Game , Family Guy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and a Seth Rogen skin. After backlash from players, Activision promised those inauthentic skins wouldn’t feature in last year’s Black Ops 7 but a collaboration with Fallout introduced the cast of the Amazon Prime TV show to the game.

Shortly after Modern Warfare 4 was revealed last week, developers Infinity Ward shared a statement that said every aspect of the game is “anchored” in the game’s narrative. “Every feature, every decision needs to feel authentic to what Modern Warfare is, and that includes cosmetics and collabs. We’re committed to keeping it grounded and transparent.”

However some players poked fun at Call Of Duty ’s previous backtracking over crossover collabs. One X user shared an AI-generated image of the Modern Warfare operators carrying Nerf guns and wearing colourful costumes alongside the caption “season two”, which has been viewed more than a million times. “We got the feedback. No BS. This is all about staying true to Modern Warfare . No clowny skins for launch and seasons beyond,” replied the official Call Of Duty X account.

We got the feedback. No BS. This is all about staying true to Modern Warfare. No clowny skins for launch and seasons beyond.

“Someone’s looking for clicks. We’ve stated our position,” they replied to another jokey post on X, which has angered some fans.
