Israeli airstrikes devastate Lebanon’s Tyre

Israeli airstrikes have left parts of the southern Lebanese city of Tyre in ruins, with video footage depicting widespread destruction following repeated Israeli bombardment. Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure in densely populated neighbourhoods were particularly hard hit, including one strike that struck a multi-storey apartment block with multiple missiles. The attacks came amid intensified Israeli military operations across southern Lebanon, where authorities had previously issued forced displacement orders prompting mass evacuations from the area.

The strikes on Tyre mark a further escalation in the ongoing cross-border violence between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which has intensified since the war in Gaza began following the 7 October 2023 attacks by Hamas. Southern Lebanon has borne the brunt of retaliatory strikes after Hezbollah launched rockets and missiles into northern Israel in solidarity with Gaza.
