Rev. Hodari Williams has been named executive director of the Justice Democrats, taking over from coโfounder Alexandra Rojas, the progressive PAC announced on Monday. Williams will begin the role in June 2024 and will lead the organizationโs dayโtoโday operations, fundraising, and strategy for the 2024 election cycle.
The Justice Democrats were founded in 2017 by Rojas, a former staffer for progressive legislators, and a handful of activists. The group has raised more than $300โฏmillion and helped elect a generation of progressive candidates, including Alexandria OcasioโCortez, Ilhan Omar and other challengers in crowded primaries. Rojas stepped down to focus on new projects and to allow fresh leadership to guide the PAC as it moves into a new decade of politics.
Williams brings a decade of experience in community organizing and public policy. He served as a pastor in Atlanta, a state legislator in Georgia, and has built extensive grassroots networks across the South. His background is seen as a way to broaden the PACโs reach beyond the New Yorkโbased core of its current supporters. Rojas will stay on as a consultant, helping to preserve institutional memory while Williams steers the organizationโs next chapter.
The transition will be announced at a press conference on Tuesday, with Williams outlining plans to expand outreach to underserved communities and to boost fundraising for the 2024 primaries. The PAC will also launch a new digital platform to coordinate volunteer efforts. The move is expected to keep the Justice Democrats at the forefront of progressive fundraising and candidate support as the next election cycle begins.
