One of the state’s top high school football prospects is going green.

Noblesville offensive lineman Caleb Johnson, rated as a four-star prospect by 247sports and Rivals, announced his commitment to Michigan State on Saturday over a group that included Indiana and Iowa. The 6-5, 275-pound senior-to-be took official visits to IU, Michigan State and Iowa – in that order – prior to committing to coach Pat Fitzgerald and the Spartans.

“A couple of things that I liked about Michigan State is their belief in me as a player to come in and be a big cornerstone in their rebirth of the program,” Johnson said of Michigan State. “Also, the connections I had with the 2027 class and players was huge.”

Michigan State was the first Power Four conference offer for Johnson in January. He vaulted up in the recruiting rankings since then and is now listed No. 2 in the state by Rivals behind Lawrence North wide receiver Monshun Sales and No. 3 by 247sports behind Sales and Warren Central linebacker Sean Fox.

Johnson is the third offensive line recruit for Michigan State in the 2027 class and the 14 th recruit overall for the Spartans in the class. He is currently the highest-ranked prospect in the class for the Spartans.

“(Fitzgerald) was very important just knowing his background and how well he can develop programs and people,” Johnson said. “He was huge in my recruitment process.”

Johnson had several offers other than Michigan State, IU and Iowa, a group that included Cincinnati, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Purdue, UCLA and many others.
