Pixel 8a gains AirDrop-like Quick Share support
Pixel 8a gains AirDrop-style Quick Share for seamless cross-platform file transfers, while Pixel 8 and 8 Pro remain unsupported. This gap highlights ongoing integration challenges between Android and Apple ecosystems.
Google just added AirDrop-style file sharing to its Pixel 8a, letting owners send files to iPhones and Macs with one tap. The new Quick Share feature works seamlessly with Apple devices, making it easier to move photos, documents, or links between ecosystems. The catch: the older Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are still locked outโeven though users report seeing early traces of the feature on their phones.
The rollout targets the mid-range Pixel 8a as the latest addition to Googleโs Quick Share list, which now includes the Pixel 8a, Pixel 7 series, and some third-party Android models like the Motorola Razr (2026 model coming), OPPO Find X8 series, and HONOR Magic 8 Pro. But Google hasnโt turned on AirDrop support for the flagship Pixel 8 and 8 Pro yet, despite user reports of a โQuick Share Extensionโ app appearing in beta builds. That app is a key step, but the actual AirDrop toggle remains hidden.
Why does it matter? File sharing between Apple and Android has long been a pain point. Quick Share finally bridges that gap, letting users skip email or third-party apps when moving files between ecosystems. Missing out on this feature means Pixel 8 and 8 Pro owners still canโt enjoy seamless cross-platform sharingโeven if the hardware could handle it.
Google hasnโt explained the delay. It could be a software issue, a licensing hurdle, or a phased rollout that just hasnโt reached the top-tier Pixels yet. Until Google flips the switchโor comments officiallyโthe Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are stuck watching everyone else connect effortlessly.
