Ilia Topuria made the walk to the octagon inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in June 2025 to fight for the vacant lightweight championship against former titleholder Charles Oliveira . He had relinquished his featherweight title to move up a division in an effort to become a two-division titleholder.

Midway through the opening round, Topuria accomplished his goal landing a right hand that immediately rendered Oliveira unconscious. "El Matador" connected with a followup left as Oliveira crashed to the canvas.
