Gears of War E-Day was the spotlight game at the Xbox Games Showcase. With around 30 minutes of gameplay and interviews in the game’s Direct, as well as an extended gameplay preview, the game is shaping up to be the best in the franchise to date. But what is the status with a PS5 release, given Xbox’s constantly changing plans?
Here’s a rundown of what is happening and why the plans may end up changing.
Gears of War E-Day is currently not set to come to PS5. The game is the first of a new collection of exclusives on Xbox, as the strategy shifts back to people playing on Xbox consoles and PC.
Alongside the game, Clockwork Revolution in 2027 will be an Xbox exclusive. Both games will be available on the Windows Store and PC, however. This is the current strategy Xbox is going with, but that could change. Ever since the new generation of consoles launched, the platform’s release and exclusivity plans have been inconsistent at best, and a downturn in revenue, or a need to sell more copies of a title, may force them to release Gears of War E-Day on PS5.
But that will be a year or more away at the earliest. So, if you do want to play, you will need to buy it on Xbox, PC, or play through the Cloud with Xbox Game Pass.
