Ihram — Complete Guide & Checklist
دليل الإحرام الكاملA complete interactive checklist and guide for Ihram — what it is, how to enter it, what to wear, what is prohibited, the Meeqat stations, the Talbiyah, penalties (Fidyah/Kaffarah), and scholarly rulings for Hajj and Umrah.
📖 What is Ihram?
Ihram (الإحرام) is the sacred state that every Muslim must enter before performing Hajj or Umrah. "Haram" means sacred/forbidden — once in Ihram, certain acts become prohibited until properly exited. Ihram has two aspects: (1) physical — wearing the Ihram garments, and (2) spiritual — making the Niyyah (intention) and entering the state of consecration. Ihram must be entered at or before the Meeqat boundary.

📍 What is the Meeqat?
The Meeqat (مِيقَات) are the 5 designated geographical boundary points around Mecca established by the Prophet ﷺ. Every person who intends to perform Hajj or Umrah MUST enter Ihram at or before their Meeqat. Crossing without Ihram requires either returning or paying Dam (slaughter penalty). People already inside the Meeqat (residents of Mecca and surroundings) enter Ihram from where they are.
🚫 Prohibited Acts During Ihram
⚠️ Important: Penalties for Violations
Violating Ihram prohibitions may require Fidyah (expiation): either (1) Fasting 3 days, OR (2) Feeding 6 poor people (half a Sa' each), OR (3) Slaughtering 1 sheep. Some violations require larger penalties (Dam = slaughter). Accidental violations still require expiation in many cases. If you are unsure, consult a scholar.

🚪 How to Exit Ihram (Tahallul)

- 1.Umrah Tahallul: After completing Tawaf, 2 Rakat, and Sa'i — cut or shave hair (Halq/Taqsir). Ihram is exited completely. All restrictions lifted.
- 2.Hajj — First Tahallul (Partial): After Rami Al-Jamarat (stoning) on Eid + Halq/Taqsir — most restrictions lifted EXCEPT sexual intercourse. May now wear regular clothes and use perfume.
- 3.Hajj — Second Tahallul (Complete): After Tawaf Al-Ifadah + Sa'i — all restrictions lifted including sexual intercourse. Ihram fully exited.
- 🎓Important: Shaving (Halq) is better than trimming (Taqsir) for men. Women only trim — they do NOT shave. The Prophet ﷺ prayed 3 times for those who shaved and once for those who trimmed.
