—🕌 About Islamic Prayer Times
The five daily prayers (Salah) are one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Prayer times vary by geographic location and season because they are tied to the sun's position. Fajr begins at astronomical dawn, Dhuhr is solar noon, Asr is determined by shadow length, Maghrib is at sunset, and Isha begins when the sky is fully dark.
Our calculator uses the free Aladhan.com API which implements verified astronomical algorithms supporting 8+ calculation methods including MWL, ISNA, Umm Al-Qura, Karachi (Hanafi), Egyptian, Kuwait, Qatar, and Turkey Diyanet.
Prayer Times FAQ
How are prayer times calculated?
Prayer times use solar astronomy: Dhuhr is solar noon, Maghrib is sunset, Asr is based on shadow length, and Fajr/Isha use solar depression angles that vary by calculation method. All data is sourced from the free Aladhan.com API using verified astronomical algorithms.
What is the Hijri (Islamic) calendar?
The Hijri calendar is a purely lunar calendar of 12 months (354–355 days per year) that began from the year of the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ migration (Hijra) to Medina in 622 CE. It is used to determine Islamic worship dates including Ramadan, Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha, and the Hajj.
Which calculation method should I use?
Use the method recommended by the main Islamic authority in your country: ISNA for North America, MWL for Europe, Umm Al-Qura for Saudi Arabia, Karachi for Pakistan/South Asia, and Egyptian for North Africa. When in doubt, MWL is the most widely used global standard.
What is the Hanafi Asr time?
In the Hanafi madhab, Asr begins when an object's shadow is twice its height plus the length at noon, rather than the standard (shadow equals height). This makes Hanafi Asr about 30–90 minutes later than standard Asr depending on the season.
What is Qiyam Al-Layl time?
Qiyam (night prayer) is most recommended in the last third of the night, calculated as the final third of the time between Isha and Fajr. This calculator shows this time in the "Today's Info" panel once prayer times are loaded.
